Consultancy of the Year 2015, 2016 & 2017

Ethos Engineering proudly accepted the Consultancy of the Year Award for the third time in a row at the Irish Construction Industry Awards 2017 on Tuesday 9th May at the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin. We believe we retained this title for the last three years because of our outstanding projects, business growth, innovation, and client satisfaction.

Outstanding Projects

We have handed over some outstanding projects in the last few years such as SquareSpace Office Fit out: The 1,700m² Office Fit out for Squarespace’s International HQ over two floors provided an opportunity for innovation with regard to M&E design from Ethos Engineering as the design was completed on a phased basis to ensure minimal disruption to live tenants. Ethos Engineering were commissioned to provide full mechanical, electrical and audio visual design for the building. Ethos carried out the design of the mechanical systems (domestic water, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, drainage & BMS controls) and electrical systems (general services, lighting & emergency lighting, new CAT6 structured cabling system, audio visual system, fire alarm system, & new communications room).

The client requested exposed M&E services and only black and white to be used throughout the design (walls, floors and ceilings). This led to innovation from our engineers as the noise from the mechanical plant had to be minimised, therefore all AC units were specified to include acoustically lined return air plenums, to achieve optimum NC levels throughout. Custom manufactured plenum boxes were installed to provide for a unique finish to the exposed grilles. The black and white theme led to innovation when lighting design was concerned. The overall project required detailed co-ordination and communication with the client Technical Advisors located in the US while liaising with the local design team.  ESB Office, Two & Three Gateway: This project was a significant high quality fit out of approximately 13,935m2 across two office buildings within the Gateway campus.

These buildings will house circa 800 ESB staff from their existing Headquarters in Fitzwilliam Square. Ethos carried out Full MEP services including A/C, ventilation, water services, drainage, lighting and emergency lighting, infrastructure for security, IT and AV, general services, power and construction monitoring. This project was completed with extremely aggressive design and construction timelines to allow the client to vacate their existing Headquarters. There was close co-ordination required with the clients IT, Security and Facilities specialists in their existing HQ to ensure their corporate requirements were met for the project. A key challenge on this project was the scope to survey, decommission and relocate existing AV services from over 50 rooms from the Headquarter offices for redeployment to Gateway Two & Three.

We are currently working on some outstanding projects such as a substantial extension on Blanchardstown Shopping Centre (the biggest retail project in Ireland) and a high quality fit-out for a global market leading Search Engine client.

Business Growth

Our Business Plan has shifted from business growth to attracting, training and retaining the top industry talent. We know that by having the best staff in the industry, who love what they do and work towards achieving goals as a team, we will be the go-to consultancy for Building Services Engineering.

In 2010 our Managing Director and two Executive Directors enrolled in the Leadership for Growth and International Selling Programmes which extensively increased our turnover and team. We have now extended our ‘Leadership for Growth’ programme to our Operations Directors which allows them to develop the leadership and management skills required to meet the targets set out in our strategy to 2020. To ensure the success of this programme, we have enlisted the help of external business coaches who conduct seminars and workshops on an ongoing basis with the management staff.

Innovation

Our vision is to be the company people want to work for and with.  Our innovation is around attracting and retaining the best employees.  This is supported by:

  • A clear company structure that allows progression for all staff through fairness, equality, diversity, commitment and desire
  • Open communications from management and staff and early feedback on performance
  • Further education to Level 9 and support for chartership status
  • Structured technical and informal mentoring
  • Full involvement of junior engineers in every step of our work processes
  • Full Engineers Ireland (EI) accredited Continuous Professional Development programmes (CPD)
  • In house technical sub-committees by discipline led by junior engineers
  • In house design guidelines (developed with over 500 years combined engineering experience)
  • Industry champion and participation in Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (ACEI).  In 2013 our CEO was elected to the ACEI Executive Committee and in 2016 was appointed Honorary Treasurer.
  • Ethos are a young company with the average age of 32 but to help fight disease and illness as early as possible we carried out a full health check with a 90% uptake

  • In February 2017 we had a visit from Celebrity Nutritionist Rosanna Davison to advise staff on healthy eating habits – We plan to bring in a Celebrity athlete every quarter to inspire our staff to live a healthy lifestyle.
  • We encourage our engineers to be a member of a recognised professional body.  Ethos provides a financial incentive for an engineer attaining chartered status and Ethos pays their yearly subscriptions
  • Our ethos is ‘work hard, play hard’ and we have a social committee which organises social events on an annual budget.  We also have a golf society, 5-a-side football committee and a climbing club, all championed by our junior staff
  • In April 2016 we launched a major staff canteen / meeting place with very plush surroundings.
  • As a thank you for all the hard work during the year, Ethos took all their staff to Barcelona for our 2016 Christmas Party weekend. Take up was over 80%.

All the above, coupled with our desire to review our methodologies and ways of working will yield a more streamlined operating process which will allow us to do projects with a greater efficiency and create a wellbeing environment for all staff providing exceptional client delivery.

Client Satisfaction

Ethos Engineering train our engineers to go above and beyond to exceed our clients expectations every time. We follow up with clients on a regular basis and encourage feedback to ensure continuous improvement. Below are a number of references relating to the aforementioned project examples:

“This DIT Research Hub project involved the design and construction of a new science research and incubator facility over six storeys with enclosed plant room at roof level and a total floor area of approximately 4,414m’. Ethos Engineering provided mechanical and electrical consultancy services as part of the design team for this project. Ethos Engineering approached this project with a professional attitude. Their inputs were detailed, efficient, reliable and invaluable. They responded to queries immediately and remained contactable throughout the entire process they adapted to change and remained consistent. Also, a key feature of the design of this building is the flexibility to allow the end user DIT to adapt to the evolving needs of clients and Ethos successfully fulfilled their brief in that regard. The building was also designed to the highest environmental standards. Our experience on this project and other projects with Ethos has always been professional and positive and we expect that this will continue into the future. We would have no hesitation recommending Ethos as MEP designers on other related projects”.
