Mechanical Engineer

Location: Dublin (office based)

Job Description: Mechanical Engineer / Full Time Permanent Salary based
Minimum Qualifications: Honours Degree – Chartered an advantage but not essential
Sector: Data Centres, Industrial, High Tech, Commercial and Healthcare
Essential Experience: 6+ years

  • Lead projects from concept stage to completion
  • Liaise with clients, architects and project managers
  • Specification and design of Mechanical Building Services systems for a range of projects
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Skills
  • Position requires thorough knowledge of mechanical design and engineering techniques.
  • Deep knowledge of CIBSE, IEC, BS, IS and EN Standards.

Key Activities

Building Physicist / IES Thermal Modeller
Building Services

Job Description: Building Physicist / IES Thermal Modeller

Essential Experience: 3+ years as Building Physicist / IES Thermal Modeller

The Role

You will use IES VE to produce thermal models and simulations related to a range of building projects in order to demonstrate regulatory compliance (Building Regulations Part L). You will produce energy calculations, heating analysis and generate building thermal loads as well as supporting the production of Energy Strategies and statements for planning authorities. You will also be competent in Daylight and sunlight assessments and planning reports.  You will assist in design studies promoting sustainable solutions, low energy services and low carbon technologies.

You will be part of a highly motivated design team dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of buildings. This will be done by producing technically accurate work and liaising effectively with the rest of the team, attending design meetings and using relevant software effectively.

The Candidate

This role would suit an Engineer from either a Building Physics / Mechanical / Sustainability background with 3+ years’ experience who may have gained experience in London market and who may now wish to return home. You must have extensive experience in Thermal Modelling using IES VE with a solid understanding of MEP services in addition to an understanding of current Building Regulations including Part L and Part F. Ideally you will be a qualified thermal bridge assessor or working towards this qualification. A working knowledge of LEED / BREEAM / WELL and a qualification in one of these rating systems would be advantageous. You will be a dynamic, outgoing individual, passionate about sustainability, hard working with a desire to develop your thermal modelling skills.

The successful candidate will lead, grow and promote through Ethos and to external clients our dynamic building analysis capability which shall include:-

  • Thermal analysis using IES VE or Design Builder
  • Internal daylight simulation
  • Daylight, sunlight and overshadowing assessments
  • Building Regulations Part L compliance assessments
  • Energy Performance Certificates (UK) – for current UK projects
  • Building Energy Rating (Ireland)
  • Energy and sustainability statements including renewables analysis
  • Passive design assessment
  • Thermal bridging calculations (using Psitherm)
  • Familiarity with BREEAM / LEED / WELL
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Working in a team environment
  • Good time management in order to meet project deadlines

The individual shall possess a ‘hands-on’ approach and capability to all elements of building physics and champion innovation in both the methods used to undertake and record the assessments and also the inclusion of best practice in sustainable building design through our in-house built environment design consultants. This shall include developing our expertise in building physics analysis into a BIM environment to promote efficiency in our wider built environment design capability.
