Project Description

EDCDUB01 consists of 2 No. 5 MW COLO’s and 2 No. 4 MW COLOS and associated electrical support rooms (Electrical Rooms, MDF Rooms, MV Rooms etc). EDCDUB02 consists of a 3MW data centre facility in Grange Castle. The Day 1 IT load is 3MW. On completion of the next phase within Grange Castle, the two combined facilities will have a total IT load of 7MW.

Ethos Input

Ethos Engineering was engaged by BCEI as part of the design team which has taken this project from concept design, through to detailed design. To date in Grange Castle, Ethos have completed 21MW of data centre design on behalf of BCEI. As part of the mechanical and electrical deliverables Ethos Engineering have been commissioned to provide the design through BIM and Revit MEP has been used for this project. The M&E services were developed to LOD 300 and transferred over to the main contractor to complete throughout the project. Ethos Engineering provided full electrical design services and Construction Administration support.

Unique / Key Features

The electrical support rooms are prefabricated pods manufactured off site and positioned externally for an accelerated construction programme. The cooling was achieved by an highly efficient DX cooling technology, utilising evaporative cooling to cool the server spaces. The project also involved infrastructure extension and resilience, in relation to site MV supplies and connection to other telecoms infrastructure. Modular external Electrical Rooms with generators mounted above with 4 LV electrical strings per facility as Ethos were able to design in expansion capabilities to spread the IT load to 7MW across facilities.
