Project Description

The Malmö data centre consists of 1 unit of 9.6MW COLO and the Gavle data centre consists of 5 units of 9.6MW COLO’s. Both have associated electrical support rooms (electrical rooms, battery rooms, prefabricated MV rooms, etc.) and infrastructural works including the construction of 110kV substations for each.

Ethos Input

As part of the mechanical and electrical deliverables for both of these projects, Ethos Engineering was commissioned to provide the design through BIM and Revit MEP was used for this project. The M&E services were developed to LOD 300 and transferred over to the main contractor to complete throughout the project. Ethos Engineering provided full MEP design services and Construction Administration support.

Unique / Key Features

For both projects, the cooling was achieved by an all-air cooling system, utilising air side economisers (outside air) to cool the server and electrical spaces. Some areas (battery rooms) had additional DX cooling provided. The projects also involved infrastructure pre-positioning for a future no generator design. Pre-positioning included above and below ground infrastructure, space planning for future MV Switchgear & MV / LV transformers, etc.
