LinkedIn set an ambitious brief for 4 Wilton Park, its largest workplace outside the US. The 160,000 sq ft Dublin office accommodates 2,000 people and needed to support the company’s wider commitments to become carbon negative, water positive and zero waste by 2030.
As both M&E Engineer and Sustainability Consultant, Ethos translated those ambitions into measurable project requirements and carried them through the engineering design and sustainability workstream. We established 33 sustainability goals, with Must and Above and Beyond targets, giving LinkedIn a clear framework for making decisions and measuring performance throughout the project.
Our detailed review of the landlord base build identified opportunities to improve energy efficiency, heat recovery and system controllability. Ethos used these findings to inform an all-electric MEP design, supported by iterative energy modelling to achieve the required reduction in energy use intensity. Our whole-building Life Cycle Assessment established embodied carbon thresholds from early design, giving the project team measurable limits to inform material specification and supplier engagement.
The same evidence-led approach informed decisions beyond the building systems. When modular meeting rooms were considered as an alternative to conventional partitions, Ethos used comparative LCA modelling to assess their whole-life carbon impact alongside the wider project requirements. Our analysis gave the team evidence to adopt a reusable solution that improved circularity without compromising the design intent.
The results demonstrate the value of this integrated approach. The completed workplace achieved a 29% reduction in energy use intensity against the ASHRAE 90.1 2010 baseline, exceeding its 25% target. Embodied carbon was verified at 76.75kg CO₂e/m² for stages A1 to A5, well below the project’s 180kg CO₂e/m² Above and Beyond goal. Water use was reduced by 47.7% against the LEED baseline.
4 Wilton Park achieved LEED Platinum and WELL Platinum certification and has passed the Ready Audit for Living Future Zero Carbon certification. It now serves as LinkedIn’s reference standard for European workplaces, giving the client a proven model for connecting corporate sustainability commitments with measurable building performance.
